Our Most Underrated Feature

Simple and Effective Design

Every boater who’s lived a life of fun on the water know storage is always a big need. Especially when you’re planning on going out cruising or entertaining guests on board. We’ve heard for years that sport racks are one of the most underrated features on our boats.

Standard on the S-250 DC, S-250 CW, and S-310 CW, stainless steel sport racks enhance your cruising experience by creating more room to relax and entertain guests—providing overhead storage for gear that would otherwise take up valuable deck space. Trust us, once you realize how handy the sport racks are, you’ll want to load them up.

Endless Uses

Here’s how Solara owners are getting the most out of their roof space:

  • Water toys – Models that come standard with sport racks also have an included popup ski pylon, making for a perfect water sport experience. You can store a wakeboard, innertube, foil, towable, and any number of other water toys up top. This is one of our favs!

  • Kayaks – Sometimes you need a smaller boat to get into those hard to reach reefs. Or maybe you like to use the big boat as basecamp for further reaching kayak adventures. Either way, keeping a rigid or inflatable kayak on the sport racks keeps it secure and out of the way until you need it.

  • Bikes – A lot of times, the same rack equipment that you use to mount your bike rooftop on your car, works with Solara sport racks too! As long as it can mount to a 1” round bar, you’re good to go. We use a rack by Yakima to mount bikes up top to keep them off the deck when you’re cruising to your destination. When you get tied up, unload the bikes, and make a fun trip of riding around.

  • Stand Up Paddleboards – The SUP is a perfect companion for your Solara sport racks; you don’t even need a special mount (though with some boards it can be helpful). A couple of tie-downs will keep everything secure during your water adventures (we like these from Nite Ize). Once you’re settled on the dock or in the anchorage, you can have an SUP in the water in seconds.

  • Cargo cage for waterproof gear – Want to speed ahead into some rowdy waters? An uncommon solution is a land vehicle type cargo rack to store items that won’t be disturbed by the wind and spray. Try stashing a crab or shrimp pot here, or maybe a rolled-up inflatable to keep cockpit storage available for other needs.

  • Rooftop cargo box – This can be a popular pick for extended cruisers and divers to store wet/dry suits and gear. Sport racks are great for storing those items you want on hand while cruising but maybe aren’t used very frequently

These are just a few of the uses for the sport racks on your Solara. If you’re not utilizing this space, consider one of the ways other Solara owners have used theirs. If you have another clever way that you use your sport racks that we didn’t list, consider letting us know in a post on tugnuts.com. We’d love to see it!
